Burnish Cycle Cost Calculator

The labour and pad cost of a burnishing programme across a year, and what one cycle of it costs.

Inputs

Range: 1–1,000,000

Length times width of the area to be cleaned.

Range: 100–100,000 sq ft per hour

Measure it on your own floor. A 2,000 rpm burnisher is faster than a 1,500 rpm one, and a cluttered floor is slower than an open one.

Range: 0–21

Reading: what this result means for the job
A heavy burnishing programme. At this frequency the labour hours and the pad consumption both matter, and the machine hour behind them is a separate cost that this tool does not carry.
Applicability limit
The result follows the burnishing rate and the cycle frequency entered, and the rate has to be measured on the actual floor with the actual machine. The cost covers labour and pads only: it excludes the machine, its power, its maintenance and the stripping and finish the burnishing programme protects. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here. Cost covers the chemical only, at the price entered. It excludes labour, equipment, applicators, consumables, freight, storage, waste disposal and any over-pour that the allowance does not capture.

What to check

  • Measure the burnishing rate on the actual floor rather than accepting a catalogue figure.
  • Confirm the loaded labour rate includes burden and supervision.
  • Check the pad life used here against the pad replacement record.

Burnishing cost is mostly labour, so the productivity rate you enter matters more than the pad price. The rate should be measured on your own floor with your own machine: a cluttered retail floor and an open corridor are not the same rate.
