Floor Finish Coverage Calculator

Gallons of finish per coat and for a whole schedule, with the finish cost and the cost per square foot of the floor.

Inputs

Length times width of the area to be cleaned.

Range: 100–20,000 sq ft per gallon

From the finish data sheet for the applicator you will actually use. A rayon mop and a flat applicator do not spread the same area per gallon.

Reading: what this result means for the job
One to five gallons for the schedule, so a single 5 gallon pail covers it. Order one pail and keep the part container sealed and dated for the next coat.
Applicability limit
Coverage per coat is a figure for one applicator on one substrate, taken from the finish data sheet. The first coat on a porous or stripped floor always covers less than the later coats, and this tool applies one rate to every coat. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here. Cost covers the chemical only, at the price entered. It excludes labour, equipment, applicators, consumables, freight, storage, waste disposal and any over-pour that the allowance does not capture.

What to check

  • Take the coverage rate from the finish data sheet for the applicator the crew will use.
  • Confirm the price is per gallon of finish, not per case and not per pre-mixed product.
  • Check the coat count against the programme specification before ordering.

Coverage per coat is entered because it is not a property of the product alone: a rayon mop, a flat applicator and a finish pad all spread different areas from the same gallon. The figure that matters for a warranty is the dry film build, which this library calculates separately.
