Mop Bucket Coverage Calculator

How many buckets a floor takes at your rate, how much concentrate each bucket needs, and the chemical cost for the whole floor.

Inputs

Range: 0.5–20 gal

Enter the measured quantity in the unit shown.

Range: 1–1,000,000

Length times width of the area to be cleaned.

Range: 50–20,000 sq ft per gallon

From the product label or technical data sheet. 1000 sq ft per gallon is typical for a spray, 2000 to 4000 for a mop and scrub.

Range: 1–512

The number after the colon on the product label.

Check the label wording. "1:64 solution" and "1 oz per 64 oz of water" do not mean the same thing.

Range: 0–1,000,000 per gallon

Enter the current purchase price in US dollars for the unit shown.

Reading: what this result means for the job
One bucket covers this floor. Mix a single bucket, mop from the far corner back to the door, and empty it at the end of the pass rather than re-dipping a soiled mop.
Applicability limit
The EPA-registered label governs. Using a registered antimicrobial inconsistently with its labeling is unlawful under 7 U.S.C. 136j(a)(2)(G), and 40 CFR 156.10(i)(2)(ii) requires every label to carry that statement. This tool does arithmetic; it does not approve a dilution, and it does not determine compliance. The bucket count follows the coverage rate and the bucket capacity entered. A mop bucket is filled to the fill line, not to the brim, and the solution on the floor picks up soil as it goes, so the last part of each bucket is dirtier than the first. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here.

What to check

  • Check the marked capacity of the bucket; a 35 quart mop bucket does not hold 3 gallons to the fill line.
  • Change the solution when it is soiled, whatever the calculated bucket count says.
  • Confirm the coverage rate belongs to a mop and bucket, not to a scrubber.

Related calculators

Bucket count depends on the coverage rate and bucket capacity you enter, and a bucket of solution picks up soil until it stops cleaning. Change the solution when it is visibly dirty, even if the arithmetic says another 500 sq ft remain.
