Cleaning Chemical Calculator

Tiled Floor Cleaning Quantity Calculator

Estimate tiled floor area from a uniform installed tile count, then calculate working solution, concentrate and chemical cost from the coverage rate entered.

Inputs

Range: 1–120 in

Inches, measured on the tile face.

Range: 1–120 in

Inches, measured on the tile face.

Range: 1–1,000,000

Count installed tiles of this face size in the area to clean. Use measured floor area when available.

Range: 50–20,000 sq ft per gallon

From the product label or technical data sheet. 1000 sq ft per gallon is typical for a spray, 2000 to 4000 for a mop and scrub.

Range: 1–512

The number after the colon on the product label.

Check the label wording. "1:64 solution" and "1 oz per 64 oz of water" do not mean the same thing.

Range: 0–1,000,000 per gallon

Enter the current purchase price in US dollars for the unit shown.

Reading: what this result means for the job
The tile count estimates a floor area that takes a partial gallon of working solution at the entered coverage rate. Confirm the actual floor measurement before mixing.
Applicability limit
This estimate multiplies the face dimensions of one tile by the count entered. It assumes all counted tiles have the same face size and does not subtract grout joints, cuts, missing tiles or uncovered areas. Use a measured floor area when available. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here. The EPA-registered label governs. Using a registered antimicrobial inconsistently with its labeling is unlawful under 7 U.S.C. 136j(a)(2)(G), and 40 CFR 156.10(i)(2)(ii) requires every label to carry that statement. This tool does arithmetic; it does not approve a dilution, and it does not determine compliance.

What to check

  • Measure one tile on the face rather than reading the box, because nominal and actual sizes differ.
  • Use measured floor area instead of a tile count when the measurement is available.
  • Confirm the coverage rate and dilution convention on the current product label.

Related calculators

This estimate multiplies one tile face area by the installed tile count. Grout joints, cuts, missing tiles and uncovered areas are not deducted, so use a measured floor area when available. Chemical quantity and cost use the coverage rate, dilution convention and price entered; verify all three against the current product label.
