Ready to Use against Concentrate Calculator

What a year of ready-to-use product costs against the same working solution bought as concentrate.

Inputs

Range: 1–200,000 gal

Enter the measured quantity in the unit shown.

Range: 0.01–1,000,000 per gallon

Enter the current purchase price in US dollars for the unit shown.

Range: 0–1,000,000 per gallon

Enter the current purchase price in US dollars for the unit shown.

Range: 1–512

The number after the colon on the product label.

Check the label wording. "1:64 solution" and "1 oz per 64 oz of water" do not mean the same thing.

Reading: what this result means for the job
The ready-to-use product costs more than the concentrate on this service. The saving below is a chemical saving only: the concentrate route needs a dispenser, a mixing routine and the time to do it, and that cost is not in this figure.
Applicability limit
The EPA-registered label governs. Using a registered antimicrobial inconsistently with its labeling is unlawful under 7 U.S.C. 136j(a)(2)(G), and 40 CFR 156.10(i)(2)(ii) requires every label to carry that statement. This tool does arithmetic; it does not approve a dilution, and it does not determine compliance. The comparison uses the ready-to-use price against the concentrate price and the dilution ratio entered, and the dilution ratio has to be the label ratio for the product. The saving covers chemical only and excludes the dispenser, its installation, the consumable tubing and the labour of mixing. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here. Cost covers the chemical only, at the price entered. It excludes labour, equipment, applicators, consumables, freight, storage, waste disposal and any over-pour that the allowance does not capture.

What to check

  • Compare products at the same working strength, not the same concentrate strength.
  • Add the labour of mixing and the bottle and drum waste before deciding.
  • Check the shelf life of the ready-to-use product, since it is usually shorter.

Related calculators

The comparison is only fair if the ready-to-use product is the same chemistry at the same strength, and if the handling cost of mixing is not counted. It does not count the labour of dilution, so treat the saving as an upper bound on the real one.
