Reading: what this result means for the job
Most of the shelf life is left. Write the date on the container when it is opened, because an unopened shelf life and an opened one are different numbers and the stock record has to carry both.
Applicability limit
The shelf life entered is the unopened life from the technical data sheet, and opened product has a much shorter life that this tool does not model. A shelf life is also a storage condition, not a calendar fact: heat and freezing shorten it, and a data sheet figure assumes the product was stored as directed. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here.

What to check

  • Read the unopened shelf life from the technical data sheet.
  • Date opened containers separately and rotate them first.
  • Check the manufacture date on the drum, not the date the case arrived.

This is the unopened shelf life from the data sheet. Opened product is a different problem: it has a shorter life, it has to be dated, and it is the stock that usually gets written off rather than the sealed drums in the back of the closet.
