Stone Polish Coverage Calculator

Polishing powder or crystallizer needed for a stone floor at a stated rate, with the pass count and the cost per square foot.

Inputs

Range: 1–1,000,000

Length times width of the area to be cleaned.

Range: 5–5,000 sq ft per pound

From the product data sheet for a machine and pad combination. A weighted machine at low speed covers less per pound than a high speed burnish.

Range: 1–6

Count each fresh application of powder as a pass. A dull floor usually takes two.

Range: 0–1,000,000 per pound

Reading: what this result means for the job
A working quantity of powder for one floor. The pass count is the lever here: a second pass on a dull floor doubles the powder, and the pass count is entered, not inferred.
Applicability limit
Powder coverage is a figure for one machine, pad and grit, and a weighted low speed pass covers less per pound than a high speed burnish. The result assumes every pass is a fresh application of powder and that the floor is dry. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here. Cost covers the chemical only, at the price entered. It excludes labour, equipment, applicators, consumables, freight, storage, waste disposal and any over-pour that the allowance does not capture.

What to check

  • Take the coverage rate from the data sheet for the machine speed you will run.
  • Count the passes the floor actually needs, not the passes in the standard method.
  • Confirm the powder price is per pound and the same grade you intend to use.

Powder coverage depends on the machine, the pad and the grit, so the rate is an input. A dull floor usually takes two applications, and a second pass consumes a second dose of powder that a single-pass estimate leaves out.
