Reading: what this result means for the job
Labour is the cost of this 1,000 sq ft, and the productivity figure is the lever. A time study that includes travel, set-up and consumable handling is what makes the number defensible in a bid.
Applicability limit
The loaded rate is the wage plus the payroll burden entered, and the productivity is measured on your own floors. This is the labour cost of cleaning 1,000 sq ft and it excludes the chemical, the equipment and the overhead. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here. Cost covers the chemical only, at the price entered. It excludes labour, equipment, applicators, consumables, freight, storage, waste disposal and any over-pour that the allowance does not capture.

What to check

  • Measure productivity on the actual scope, not on an empty floor.
  • Use your own payroll burden rate rather than a published average.
  • Check whether the rate includes the time a supervisor spends on the floor.

Productivity is the number that decides this: it comes from a time study on your own floors, including travel, set-up and consumable handling. Burden is also site specific, and a burden rate taken from another employer is not yours.
