Pallet Weight Calculator

The shipping weight of a pallet of chemical, from the container count, the fill volume and the product density.

Inputs

Range: 1–1,000

Enter the measured or label value in the units shown.

Range: 0.03125–55 gal

Enter the measured quantity in the unit shown.

Range: 0.1–30 lbgal

Specific gravity from section 9 of the safety data sheet, converted to pounds per gallon.

Range: 0–500 lb

The wood pallet and any stretch wrap or banding.

Range: 1–100,000 lb

The limit at the dock, on the liftgate or on the floor where the pallet will stand, in pounds.

Reading: what this result means for the job
An ordinary pallet. At this weight a liftgate is normally needed, and the dock has to be able to take the truck as well as the pallet.
Applicability limit
The weight comes from the container count, the fill volume and the density entered, and the density is the figure from section 9 of the safety data sheet. It assumes full containers and a dry product, and it excludes the freight weight of any secondary containment. This is a planning figure for the values entered, not a measured result. Coverage rates, product yields and application rates are properties of a specific product, applicator and substrate, and the label or data sheet for the product you are using always takes precedence over the default here.

What to check

  • Take the density from section 9 of the safety data sheet.
  • Confirm whether the containers are full, since a part container changes the weight.
  • Include the pallet, banding and any secondary containment in the tare.

Density comes from section 9 of the safety data sheet and it is specific gravity, not a weight. A pallet that is heavier than the dock limit is a receiving problem on someone else's schedule, so the number is worth having before the truck is booked.
